Energy Intelligence Software Rebuilt for a New Market — 76% Faster

When Ontario's Market Renewal Program rewrote the rules for the electricity market, Rodan Energy needed energy intelligence software that could keep pace. Euristiq rebuilt MarketIQ — Rodan's real-time energy trading platform — cutting page load times from 13.31 to 3.14 seconds and scaling its cache from 300 to 1 million entries, so 30,000 daily data points from Ontario's IESO could reach traders instantly.

Overview

Rodan Energy Solutions is a leading North American energy management company, delivering intelligent energy solutions that help large commercial and industrial energy users, plus power distribution and generation companies, optimize energy use and reduce costs. One of their products, Sygration (now MarketIQ™), needed a redesign to work as modern energy management software development for Ontario’s changing electricity market.

01. PROBLEM

About the product Euristiq worked on

The Ontario Electricity Market is undergoing a Market Renewal Program (MRP) that started May 1, 2025, significantly impacting the availability of information and how market participants use it. In response, Rodan Energy decided to adapt MarketIQ to fit the current needs of various stakeholders within Ontario’s electricity market.
01

A regulatory deadline, not a nice-to-have

The MRP overhauls scheduling, pricing, and supply of electricity to enhance grid reliability and refine price signals — aiming to save up to $700 million over the next decade. MarketIQ had to be ready for it.

02

Data inconsistency during migration

A custom user model introduced late in the process caused inconsistencies, with some data pointing to outdated records — a risk for any energy intelligence software handling live trading decisions.

METHODOLOGY

We applied our 4D approach

01

Discover

Euristiq had already helped Rodan with an AWS-to-Azure migration, upgrading Oracle and Perl with zero downtime — the trust that led to this MVP engagement.

02

Decide

Through Discovery, Euristiq evaluated migration options — rebuilding the system versus integrating with MD 2.0 — before designing a detailed roadmap.

03

Design

User Management, User Settings, and Reports were redesigned around the widget, KPI, and alert selectors that MRP-era traders actually need.

04

Develop

Shipped a custom Drag & Drop Widget Selector, a 1M-entry cache, and a maintenance-mode fallback — all with zero-downtime delivery.

02. SOLUTION

Energy market intelligence software
rebuilt for real-time decisions

MarketIQ processes large volumes of energy-related data to help market participants maximize profits, reduce risk, and make data-driven decisions — so handling that data was critical. Euristiq’s legacy modernization team redesigned and upgraded the platform to keep pace with the new market rules.

Migration strategy and roadmap

We began by developing a migration strategy that evaluated options such as rebuilding the system or integrating with MD 2.0. Based on that evaluation, we designed a migration roadmap with a detailed plan for the selected option.

Data migration and fallback mechanism

A custom user model introduced late in the process caused inconsistencies, with some data pointing to outdated records. We addressed this by migrating all old user data and implementing a fallback mechanism, ensuring continuity without data loss.

Frontend performance overhaul

High data volume was causing slow page loads and timeouts. We introduced local storage caching and restructured API requests into smaller chunks, cutting load times from 13.31 to 3.14 seconds.

New features: User Management, User Settings, Reports

We designed and developed a User Management feature (login, password reset, account pages), a User Settings feature (data, widget, and KPI selectors with alert configurations), and Reports (dashboard, adequacy report, and Inter, each with widgets, alerts, KPI cards, charts, and currency conversion).

Scalable widget selector

The platform needed a flexible way to handle over 10,000 items with fast search, multi-selection, and smooth performance under heavy load. Our engineers built a custom Drag & Drop Widget Selector with fuzzy search and virtualization.

Cache expansion for 30,000 daily data points

The original cache, built for 300 entries, couldn’t manage incoming IESO data updated every five minutes. We expanded it to 1 million entries, optimizing performance and ensuring fast access on the dynamic MarketIQ dashboard.

03. RESULTS

76% faster, 3,233× more cache,
one source of market truth

MarketIQ is highly beneficial for Canadian large energy consumers and power generators participating in Ontario’s Market Renewal Program, helping them make informed, profitable decisions based on real-time data, advanced forecasting, and weather insights.
Performance

76% faster page loads

Average page load time dropped from 13.31 seconds to 3.14 seconds after the caching and API restructuring work.

Scalability

3,233× larger cache

Cache capacity grew from 300 to 1,000,000 entries, supporting 30,000 unique data points arriving daily from Ontario’s IESO.

FAQ

What is energy intelligence software?

Energy intelligence software is a platform that processes real-time and historical energy market data — pricing, demand forecasts, imports and exports, and grid flows — into dashboards traders and operators can act on. Euristiq’s rebuild of Rodan Energy’s MarketIQ platform is one example: it ingests 30,000 unique data points a day from Ontario’s IESO and turns them into zonal pricing, demand forecasts, and intertie flow views for energy traders and generators.

How does energy market intelligence software support Ontario’s Market Renewal Program?

Energy market intelligence software supports Ontario’s Market Renewal Program (MRP) by adapting to the new scheduling, pricing, and supply rules the MRP introduced on May 1, 2025. Euristiq redesigned Rodan Energy’s MarketIQ platform so market participants could keep using zonal pricing, demand forecasts, and reporting tools under the new rules, which aim to save Ontario’s electricity market up to $700 million over the next decade.

What software is used for energy market data analysis?

Energy market data analysis typically runs on platforms built with a Python/Django backend and a modern JavaScript frontend, paired with charting libraries for real-time dashboards. Euristiq rebuilt Rodan Energy’s MarketIQ on Python, Django REST framework, Vue3 with the Composition API and TypeScript, and Highcharts — expanding its cache from 300 to 1 million entries so it could handle 30,000 daily data points from Ontario’s electricity market.

How is data analytics used in the energy industry?

In the energy industry, data analytics turns high-volume market and grid data into decisions — forecasting demand, pricing electricity by zone, and flagging risk in real time. On Rodan Energy’s MarketIQ platform, Euristiq built dashboards, reports, and widgets that convert 30,000 daily data points into zonal pricing, demand forecasts and actuals, scheduled imports and exports, and intertie flows and limits for large energy consumers and generators.
